چکیده
The present study was conducted to find out the incidence of G-6-PD deficiency among the Jats and Brahmins of Sampla, Haryana. The incidence status of G-6-PD deficiency revealed a high percentage among the Jats and Brahmins of Haryana; the Jat males having the higher percentage (11.49%) than their Brahmin counter parts (10.42%), though the chi square comparison shows non significant differences ((c2 = 0.5, df1; NS). On the contrary, Jat females have a lower incidence of the deficient allele (6.13%) than the Brahmin females (7.14%). The heterozygous status shows that the Jat females have a higher percentage (10.20%) than that of their Brahmin counterparts (8.93%).

Prevalence of Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase Deficiency among Male Donors in Shiraz, Southern Iran
The overall incidence of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency in Iranian population is estimated around 10%-14.9%. G6PD deficiency is an X-linked disorder and 80% of donors are usually male. At present, donors’ blood is not routinely screened for G6PD deficiency in Iran blood bank where for detecting such enzyme deficiency, reliance is placed on pre-donation data. Thus, the G6PD ...

Background: Jaundice is affecting over 60-80 percent of neonates in the first week of life. Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency, which is an important cause of pathologic hyperbilirubinemia, can lead to hemolytic anemia, jaundice and kernicterus. The present study was performed to determine the prevalence of G6PD deficiency among icteric neonates in Shirvan, Iran. Methods: This...

Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency is one of the most common hereditary enzymatic disorders in human, increases the vulnerability of erythrocytes to oxidative stress. It is also characterized by remarkable molecular and biochemical heterogeneity. According to previous investigations, G6PD Cosenza (G1376C) is a common G6PD mutation in some parts of Iran. Therefore in the present...
